More carrots and less stick!

If like me you’re a bit annoyed by the condescending attitude of our M25-encircled overlords you’ll probably like my idea to replace the existing ‘safety camara scheme’ for one that rewards good driving (within the context of speed limits, as we’ve all seen some legally awful driving in our time on the road). My idea is that a centralised system of cameras is in control of the amount of road tax...

IoM petrol prices

As someone who lives on the Isle of Man, I’d like to say that the fuel prices people are complaining about on the Island are what we pay all year round. They have not been put up for the TT, it is normal for fuel to be 10p or more per litre higher than on the mainland.

Angry Dad

Thanks to the moron who spilt petrol all over the roundabout at Hexham (A69) on Saturday which caused my son to crash his first big bike and break his wrist. I hope your next sh*t is a hedgehog.

Cops' priorities

How do the traffic cops expect any respect when they carry on like this: Every year on the way to the ferry for the North West 200 from Stranraer there they are standing in some lay-by pulling in every bike for a stop check for reg plates and road tax (these things are a real danger on our roads, eh?) as the motorists drive by on their mobile phones. All the while I’m getting nicked for having a...

Island petrol

It is shameful if some garages are charging over the odds for petrol on the Isle of Man during the TT. However as an Island resident (Yorkshire-born) for 5 years, I have learned to live with paying around 5p a litre more for petrol than on the mainland. So I would love to say that it is greedy garage owners profiteering – but it is over-priced for the other 50 weeks of the year, too. I personally...
