Yamaha have announced a raft of technical changes to their sporty urban XMAX 125 and XMAX 300 scooters for 2025, including a shift to Euro5+ compliant engines.

The A2 licence-friendly 300s now produce a claimed 27.6bhp, with the 125s kicking out a suggested 12.1bhp – making it compatible with a CBT certificate, with the added bonus of stop/start technology to save fuel around town.

The most advanced models in the range consist of the Tech Max and Tech Max + models, which are available in both engine sizes and have been peppered with uprated tech for the new year.

For starters, all four models have been treated to an up/down electric front screen with 95mm of movement – adjusted via a switch on the left switchgear.

This is complemented by additional wind protection for the riders’ arms, and a restyled nose fairing – said to further shade users from the elements.

On top of this, there’s now a 4.2in colour TFT display for mobile connectivity, alongside a backlit LCD screen for your speed, trip meter and more. Once connected to your mobile, you can receive notifications on calls, messages, and even emails – with a Garmin smartphone app also unlocking directions, live traffic updates and more.

Other details found across the XMAX range also include keyless ignition, full LED lighting, and space under the seat said to allow for two helmets – depending on their size and shape. A handy front compartment holds a USB-C style socket, too.

The Yamaha XMAX family was first launched in Europe in 2004, with more than 166,000 models sold across the continent in that time. Over 248,000 have also been sold in Asia, despite only being introduced in 2017.
