WSB: Phillip Island to host 2022 season finale

Phillip Island will host the 12th and final round of the 2022 World Superbike Championship season.

The iconic Australian circuit will close-out the season on November 18-20, once week after the penultimate round in Indonesia. It’s the first time since 2010 that the WorldSBK season has finished with back-to-back rounds, and the 11th time in the Championship’s history.

Last year’s race meeting was cancelled for the first time since 1993 due to Covid-19. Phillip Island joined the calendar in 1990, and has hosted the greatest number of races in the championship’s history (61.

The circuit is known for creating exciting and unpredictable racing, commonly closing the field up compared to other rounds during the season. In 2020, Toprak Razgatlioglu, Jonathan Rea, and Alex Lowes, making his Kawasaki debut, were all victorious.

It will be the fourth time in the championship’s history that Phillip Island has hosted the season finale; the last time being in 1996. Beyond 2022, it is expected that the Australian circuit will go back to its traditional slot in the calendar as the season opener.

This year’s WorldSBK season begins at Aragon on April 8-10.
