WSB: New calendar released following Assen postponement

The FIM and Dorna have released an updated calendar for the 2020 World Superbike Championship following the postponement of the Dutch round at Assen.

The famous circuit had been scheduled to host the next round of the season on April 17-19, but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic this has now been pushed back. The Dutch round will now take place on August 21-23.

Today’s news follows the postponements of the Spanish round at Jerez and French round at Magny-Cours. Qatar, the original destination of round two, has not yet been rescheduled and may end up off the calendar completely due to resurfacing work at the circuit.

At the time of writing (March 24), the second round of the 2020 WSB season is now scheduled to take place at Imola on May 8-10. This will be followed by Aragon on May 22-24 and then Misano on June 12-14.

Of course, with the coronavirus pandemic and resulting lockdowns throughout Europe, these dates are by no means final and are subject to change in the coming days and weeks. Governments around the world are continuing to monitor the situation and are taking action where necessary to try and slow the spread of COVID-19.

“The FIM and Dorna WSBK Organization are continuously working with Circuits and Government Officials following up the situation in each country, putting the safety of everyone first in every case,” today’s statement reads. “Information will be released accordingly should there be any further changes to the 2020 Calendar.”

Jerez and Magny-Cours postponed

The Spanish and French rounds of the 2020 World Superbike Championship have been postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, has now been labelled as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation and continues to spread around the globe.

As a result, the 2020 WSB calendar has now been altered. The Spanish round at Jerez has been moved from March 27-29, to October 23-25.

Meanwhile, the French round at Magny-Cours has been pushed back a week to October 2-4. This is due to the recent MotoGP calendar changes which have led to the Aragon Grand Prix being held on the original date of the French round in WSB.

As it stands, no new date has been suggested for the Qatar round of WSB. Originally round two in the championship, Qatar became the first postponement in the series because of coronavirus.

Currently the next round of the championship will take place at Assen on April 17-19, however this is subject to change due to the current uncertainty surrounding coronavirus.

“FIM and Dorna WSBK Organization are working extensively with Circuits and Government Officials following up the situation in each country and will inform accordingly in due course if there are further changes to the 2020 Calendar,” an FIM statement reads.
