WSB: Donington to host battle of the Brits

1 of 1

The Superbike World Championship rolls in to Donington Park next weekend (25-27 May) for its one and only visit to the UK and with long-term forecasts looking good, it’s set to be a scorcher.

Jonathan Rea once again heads in to his home round ahead of the championship standings. The Ulsterman holds 47 points over fellow Brit Chaz Davies after the first five rounds.

Tom Sykes, King of Donington until he was de-crowned by team-mate Rea in last year’s second race, will be looking for revenge at a circuit he’s won nine of the last ten races at.

PATA Yamaha’s Alex Lowes will be keen to repeat his home podium success from last year after a strong start to 2018 with the YZF-R1 saw him clinch his first ever WSB pole position in Assen.

Donington will host Leon Camier’s first race back with the Red Bull Honda team as he returns from the injuries he sustained in his nasty Aragon crash, while Eugene Laverty will also be back on track after a solid top ten in Imola after recovering from the broken hip he picked up back at the Thai round in March.

The grid will be bolstered by wildcards from the Bennetts BSB championship headed up by none other than series leader Leon Haslam, who took an impressive podium with the Pucetti Kawasaki team this time last year. Rumour has it he’ll be joined by Buildbase Suzuki’s Bradley Ray, while former World Supersport front runner Gino Rea is also scheduled to make a wildcard appearance with the OMG Racing Suzuki team.
