WSB: Bautista set to confirm Ducati deal

Alvaro Bautista is set to announce a move to World Superbikes for 2019 with the Aruba Ducati squad.

The news is expected to be announced in this afternoon’s British MotoGP Press Conference, which is scheduled to take place at 17:00.

The 2006 125cc World Champion has been holding off signing a World Superbike deal in the hope something would become available in MotoGP, but with Avintia seeking big cash for their second seat the Spaniard’s options have dried up.

MCN understands Bautista, who has raced in MotoGP since 2010, had several options in World Superbikes, including an offer from the Red Bull Honda team, but the option to ride Ducati’s all-new 1000cc V4 was what would eventually swing him.

Eugene Laverty had been tipped to join the Ducati squad, but it’s understood series bosses Dorna pushed hard for the Spaniard to secure a top seat.

Chaz Davies is expected to remain with the Italian factory, but has yet to be confirmed.
