WSB: Rea set for 200th race start in Assen

World Superbike Champion Jonathan Rea will start his 200th WSB race at the TT Circuit Assen this weekend as he looks to further extend his already dominant championship lead.

After the first three rounds, Rea has only been beaten once in the opening six races as he lost out to Chaz Davies last time out in the second race at Aragon. His incredible start to the season gives him a whopping 50-point lead over the Welshman in the championship standings.

The Northern Irishman has been unbeaten at the Dutch circuit since 2014 and has nine victories to his name at the venue renowned for producing close racing across the years.

“I’m really excited to go to Assen as it’s a circuit that typically I’ve been very strong at in the past,” he said. “I really enjoy the layout and nature of the track. Sunday will also mark my 200th career WSB race start so that in itself is something I’m both proud and excited about.

“Since Aragon, we’ve had three test days where we’ve worked hard to improve the set-up of the ZX-10RR and also worked on some of the areas in which we’ve been struggling and saw positive results.

“History has shown that the weather can play a part at Assen at this time of year, so it’s important to be fast in both the wet and the try. I’m excited for whatever the conditions are.”
