WSB: Davies signs two-year Ducati extension

1 of 1

Chaz Davies has signed a two-year extension that will see him compete with Ducati Corse for the next two seasons.

The news comes as it has been confirmed that Marco Melandri will make a shock return to Ducati next season as the Aruba-backed squad confirm their line up.

Davies has taken nine victories for Ducati since joining the Italian marque at the start of the 2014 World Superbike season and is one of few riders who has been able to beat the dominant Jonathan Rea.

While the Welshman has signed a two-year deal, the team’s announcement only makes reference to his 2017 plans, meaning where he’ll ride beyond the 2017 could still be up in the air with the 29-year-old keen to make a return to Grand Prix racing.

“I’m extremely happy to renew my professional relationship with Ducati for two more seasons,” Davies said. “The continuity element is really important in our job, and so far we’ve made great strides and got progressively closer to our goal. Now we can fight for the win practically on every track, and I’m confident we can make further improvements. Moreover, to race for Ducati is something special: everything is done with heart and passion, you really feel part of a family and have a direct connection between the production and racing. It’s going to be exciting.”
