Rea Dedicates Imola WSB Wins To Joan Lascorz

After his latest dominant WSB weekend Jonathan Rea (KRT) dedicated his brace of Imola race wins to former KRT Superbike rider Joan Lascorz, who suffered paralysis after hitting a trackside barrier at Imola in testing during the 2012 season.

“Honestly, in the last laps I was just thinking about Joan Lascorz,” said Rea. “He gave me some power. All my mechanics my side of the garage worked with Joan, so this weekend I want to dedicate that to him. They put a sticker on my dash for Joan and in the race I was paying attention to that, and for sure it was giving me some extra power.”

Lascorz is more than a former rider to the Provec squad, the Spanish-based company that runs the European base and overall WSB logistics for Kawasaki.

He was the rider they brought through from Spanish Supersport, via World Supersport, all the way to the brink of success in the factory Kawasaki WSB team, before injury cut short his career in such a cruel fashion.

Since then Imola has always been a difficult place for the team to come back to each season, despite the fact that KRT has had real success here in the recent past – initially with Tom Sykes and now Rea as well. In short, Imola is always a weird race weekend for KRT, filled with reflections.

“Speaking to some of my mechanics the word is weird because they wanted to get the bad feeling off their shoulders and I am just so happy to do that for them because they are a bunch of really good guys,” said Rea after race two at Imola. “The bond we have in the team is working really good and I am looking forward to the next test we have because we have got some really good ideas.”

That next test will be the official Dorna test day, immediately after the Portimao round, on Monday 8th June. The next race for Rea will be his home event, at Donington Park on 24th May.
