Davies takes first ever Superpole win

Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati WSB) scored his first career Superpole win with a 1’22.101 second lap in Superpole 2 at Laguna Seca.

A Ducati block-out of the top two places saw Davide Giugliano (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati WSB) go second, after a late altercation on track with Alex Lowes (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) as the two riders almost tangled into the scary turn one and two combination. Lowes was to finish eighth.

Laguna first timer Jordi Torres (Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils) rode to third place on the grid, holding off the relatively sedate Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) to fourth – with his team-mate Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) fifth. The second row was completed by the second Aprilia and Leon Haslam (Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils).

Privateer Niccolo Canepa (Althea Racing Ducati) continued his good form to go seventh, one place up on Lowes.

Sylvain Guintoli (Pata Honda WSB) and Leon Camier (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) completed the top ten.

The opening Superpole session of the weekend saw the 11th to 20th place qualifiers fight it out for the right to enter Superpole 2. Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia SBK Team) and Camier each achieved their ambition.
