Davies keeps title fight alive with race two win

Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati WSB) rode a virtual start-to-finish race to take the race two victory at Sepang. Despite Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) finishing second he was not crowned champion quite yet, even though the second race was a virtual disaster for his team-mate Tom Sykes.

A last corner fight between Davies and Rea ended up in a contact as Rea tried to win his second race of the day, after Rea had hunted Chaz down in the last two laps at seemingly impossible pace.

Jordi Torres (Aprilia Racing Red Devils) was third and top Aprilia finisher.

Sykes and Max Biaggi clashed after he tried to go around the outside of the fast starting Italian and Sylvain Guintoli went inside, assisting Sykes and Biaggi’s clash.

The Aprilia rider got going again but had to retire while Sykes dropped to seventh and then suddenly lost more places.

Sykes was up to seventh again on lap six, setting the same lap times as Rea but was to fall at Turn 9 on lap six. He got going again, starting his fight back again from 19th place, 41 seconds down, to finish 14th and score two points.

In the championship the gap of 144 between Rea and new second place rider Davies means the title will have to go to the next round at Jerez, in September, at least.
