On the first of two days of FIM Supersport World championship testing at Phillip Island in Australia three-time WSS champion Kenan Sofuoglu (Puccetti Kawasaki) took the fastest time of all, recording a 1’33.743 to finish 0.269 seconds ahead of Jules Cluzel (MV Agusta Reparto Corse).

The existing lap record in the WSS division is a 1’33.283, set by Sofuoglu in 2013, while the track best of Sam Lowes (Yamaha) is a 1’32. 545, again set in 2013.

Sofuoglu and Cluzel were the clear leaders in early testing, with 2015 MV signing Lorenzo Zanetti third and Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpress rider PJ Jacobsen fourth.

Returnee WSS rider Gino Rea (CIA Landlords Insurance Honda) placed fifth after the two opening 110 minute sessions on the 4.445km circuit. Top wildcard rider was Aiden Wagner (Oz Wildcard Racing) in a highly creditable sixth place from 22 riders in all.

There is one more day of testing to run, on Tuesday 17th February.
