Giugliano disappointed but fortunate

The severity of the L1 and L2 vertebrae fractures suffered by Davide Giugliano in recent PI tests means he will miss out on any track action for 90 days, which will take him right through to the gap between Imola and Donington.

A far from ideal situation for a competitive rider with designs on the world championship itself, but he is also well aware of the fact that his injures could have been far worse.

“For the moment it is still a big problem but I am more happy to be walking,” said Giugliano. “This is important. Three months not riding is tough but I think it is good for me to return when I am fit and fully healed.”

He explained his injuries in more detail. “I have one fracture at the front of my spine, and one at the back. Two different ones; one is a compression fracture and one is a torsion fracture. I have no special cast to wear or anything but I have to be careful.”

Giugliano will fly home before raceday to begin his recuperation in Italy.
