Monza WSB: Melandri takes race one win

GoldBet BMW rider Marco Melandri took his first race win of the season in the first race at Monza after a race long battle with Tom Sykes, Eugene Laverty and Sylvain Guintoli.

Melandri was third at the end of the penultimate lap but passed both Sykes and Laverty  to claim the win.

Sykes took advantage of Melandri’s last lap move on Laverty to clinch the second step on the podium.

Championship leader Sylvain Guintoli was unable to stick with the top three at the end of the race and finished fourth.

Jonathan Rea finished eighth after he was handed a two place penalty by race direction for running on at the first chicane.
