Max Biaggi will miss the Imola round of the World Superbike Championship this weekend with his participation for next weeks Magny Cours round also in serious doubt.

The reigning world champion has a badly displaced fracture of his first metatarsal of his left foot. Despite the injury happening three weeks ago at the  Nurburgring an x-ray at the circuit today shows very little sign of the two bones fusing back together.

Speaking to MCN, the Alitalia Aprilia rider said: “My foot was in a cast and I came to Imola early to have the first x-ray and understand if it would be possible to ride. But as soon as the cast was off I was in a lot of pain and I knew then that it would be impossible as I can not put any pressure on it.”

“Now my focus is on Magny Cours and to be fit in seven days time. I am doing everything I can and Dainese have made three different boots for me to try and help so I’m hoping that all this effort will pay off. Whatever happens I will race at Portimao.”

The news means that Biaggi has accepted that his 2011 title campaign is over. With three rounds remaining he currently trails leader Carlos Checa by 95 points meaning that if Checa scores five points or more over the two races on Sunday, Biaggi can no longer mathematically win the title.
