Monza WSB: Chaz Davies in control

Chaz Davies stamped his authority on day one of the Monza World Supersport round by setting the fastest time in both free practice and first qualifying today.

The ParkinGo Yamaha R6 rider set a best time of 1.48.408 which was 0.5s faster than his first free practice best, but just 0.105 ahead of his team mate and championship leader Luca Scassa.

Davies said: “The bike feels good. Since Donington we’ve only had to make minimal changes, real small things and it’s working again here at Monza. The speed of the bike is good. I think it’s a few KM’s faster than the Honda’s on top end but it’s similar everywhere else.”

Gino Rea secured an impressive third fastest time in the session onboard his Step Racing Honda. The 21 year old was concerned about the top speed of his bike, but used the slipstream down the long straights to finish just 0.1s behind Scassa.

Sam Lowes set the seventh fastest time onboard his Parkalgar Honda, despite riding with a badly broken collarbone. James Ellison claimed 13th place onboard the Bogdanka Honda.
