Crutchlow leads the Yamaha charge on final day of Misano test

1 of 1

Cal Crutchlow ended the two day test in Misano at the top of the timesheets after setting an impressive 1.36.2s best lap. The factory Yamaha rider’s time came early in a ten lap run after a day spent evaluating new electronics.

It wasn’t the perfect day for Crutchlow who suffered a crash in the early afternoon when he lost the front of his R1 at the tight right hand hairpin at the end of the lap.

James Toseland finished the test in second place with a best lap set on a qualifying tyre at the end of the day. Toseland’s pace on a race tyre was even more impressive with a lap time just a tenth slower than his qualifying best.

The 29 year old also set an impressive race run mid way through the day when the track temperature was up and the grip was low. Over the 14 laps Toseland’s fastest time was 1.36.8 with his slowest a 1.37.4.

Troy Corser and Leon Haslam set the joint third fastest time. Haslam worked hard to maximise the performance of his new Ohlins through rod forks, but had to revert back to his original spec engine after being unable to find a suitable fuel map at the circuit to suit his new spec engine.

Corser’s climb up the leader board came after introducing a new rear link to his S1000RR, with the Australian lapping consistently fast throughout the day to finish over half a second ahead of Leon Camier. The factory Aprilia man used a qualifying tyre to set his fastest lap and lapped consistently throughout the day on worn race tyres.

Ruben Xaus had a positive day onboard his BMW setting a 1.37.2 on a race tyre early in the day.

Test riders Alex Hoffman (Aprilia) and Steve Martin were also at the test working with their respective full time test teams.
