Silverstone WSB: Crutchlow on pole
Cal Crutchlow dominated Superpole this afternoon with an impressive 2’04.091 fastest lap in preparation for tomorrow’s WSB race – the time would have placed him fifth on the grid of the MotoGP round at Silverstone, between Dovizioso and Hayden.
Crutchlow was 0.672 faster than Jonathan Rea (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) as he claimed his sixth pole of the season. The Yamaha rider hopes to confirm his superiority tomorrow as he bids for his first win of the season. He said “I need to get a good start tomorrow and get out front because as soon as I get held up I can’t run the lines I want and I end up wrecking the tyres.”
The two Brits will hold the first places on the grid tomorrow, ahead of Michel Fabrizio (Ducati Xerox) and Jacob Smrz (Aprilia Pata B&G). The Czech rider Smrz, racing for the second time with the Aprila, claimed “This result is good, as much as I am still learning about the bike. We are working a lot on it to do the best tomorrow”
Leon Haslam is fifth on the grid ahead of championship leader Max Biaggi’s Aprilia with BMW riders Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus completing the second row.
Shane Byrne (Ducati Althea) posted the ninth time ahead of Yamaha Sterilgarda rider James Toseland (12th) who crashed during the second Superpole. Tom Sykes (Kawasaki) is 13th.
