Shane Byrne faces a race against time to be fit for the ninth round of the World Superbike Championship at Brno next weekend.

Byrne suffered a deep cut in the back of his left hand after being hit by fellow Brit Leon Haslam in the final minutes of the two day Imola test on Wednesday.

Byrne was taken to hospital in Imola for treatment, where he also underwent X-rays for a suspected Metacarpal, which thankfully showed no sign of a break.
Speaking to MCN Byrne said:

“It’s a bit sore, but I’ll live. I’ve only had one lot of x-rays when I was in Imola, but it doesn’t feel like it is broken.

“I’ve been to one of Dr Costa’s clinics and they’ve advised me to keep it covered until Sunday and then take the dressing off and let the air get to it.

“The plan is to take the stitches out on Thursday when I’m in Brno, but we’re going to have to wait and see how it is for the race.”
