Rea leads Brit dominance of Portimao WSB test

Jonathan Rea set the pace on the third and final day of the WSB test in Portimao with a lap time under the circuit best lap set by Ben Spies. Riding the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda, Rea spent the three days dicing at the top of the timesheets with fellow countryman Leon Haslam riding the Alstare Suzuki.

Shane Byrne saved his best to last to secure third place onboard his new Althea Ducati. The former BSB champion had to overcome a number of set-up problems but showed once again his undisputed pace around the undulating Portimao track.

Cal Crutchlow was the next Brit in fourth place riding the factory Yamaha. Despite suffering a crash during the final session, Crutchlow showed that he will be a contender in 2010 especially as he is yet to find the optimum set-up on his R1.

Xerox Ducati rider Michel Fabrizio was the first non Brit on the timesheets in fifth spot. Fabrizio had to overcome a sickness bug on day one of testing and was unable to show his usual testing pace.

James Toseland claimed the sixth fastest time after a seriously busy test evaluating new development parts on his Yamaha R1. Despite not being totally satisfied with his lap time, he remains confident that he is making constant improvements to his overall package.

Leon Camier dropped down the leader board to 12th on day three after going the  wrong direction on machine set-up with Tom Sykes having a difficult test down in 15th place over two seconds off the pace.

In Supersport it was a good day for Eugene Laverty and his Parkalgar Honda team who secured the fastest time ahead of Joan Lascorz and Michele Pirro. Chaz Davies ended the test in sixth onboard his BE1 Triumph.
