Laverty: “Cal is doing me a favour”

Eugene Laverty claims that Cal Crutchlow’s impressive testing form since switching to WSB is a major boost for his own career.

In 2009 Laverty and Crutchlow fought a thrilling battle for supremacy with Crutchlow securing the title at the final round of the championship at Portimao.

For 2010, Laverty will stay in WSS with his Parkalgar Honda squad in a bid to win the coveted title, but has made his intentions clear for 2011 to switch to either Moto2 or WSB.

Speaking to MCN, Laverty said: “The fact that Cal has gone out in testing and so far been faster than James (Toseland) who’s come from MotoGP is only good for me.

I would have liked to have seen Cal go to Moto2 because I think he could have gone out and won the first race and surprised a few people.

But he’s still doing me a favour with what he’s doing in WSB.”

In Laverty’s one and only test of 2010 at Portimao, the 23 year old finished quickest ahead of title rival Joan Lascorz onboard the Motocard.com Kawasaki.
