James Toseland arrived in Assen in confident mood and believes that ongoing improvements to his Sterilgarda Yamaha R1 will enable him to fight at the front again this weekend.

Last time out in Valencia two weeks ago, Toseland claimed his first WSB podium in race one since returning to the class.

The 29 year old has good form at the Assen track having won two races here during his career – one for Xerox Ducati and one for Ten Kate Honda.

Speaking to MCN, he said: “We made improvements with the bike between Phillip Island and Portimao and then between Portimao and Valencia.

“We know the direction we need to go in and the team have done more work ahead of this race.

“The new electronics system we have helps to stop the bike really spinning in fast corners, which helps keep the tyre temperature down, which helps tyre life.”

The opening World Superbike Free Practice session gets underway at 12.45pm local time.
