Cal Crutchlow made a strong start to the second round of the World Supersport Championship at Qatar by posting the fourth fastest lap time in this morning opening free practice session.

The factory Yamaha R6 rider has only limited knowledge of the technical middle eastern circuit but was able to get to grips with the 3.34 mile track within the 45 minute session. He said:

“I did about 20 laps of the track on a Honda Fireblade launch a year ago. I’ve been doing laps on the Playstation and since being here I’ve run the track a few times.”

Crutchlow was able to slash his lap times during the session thanks to his increased track knowledge along with ever improving track conditions.

“To start with I was doing 2m 12s laps and by the end I was into the 2m 04s. It wasn’t easy doing those times but I’m still learning. I have to remember that most of my rivals have raced here for the last four years.”
