Crutchlow denied pole position by rain at Misano

Factory Yamaha man Cal Crutchlow looked odds on to claim his sixth pole position of his World Supersport career but had to settle for second position to the inform Italian Michel Pirro riding the Lorenzini Yamaha. Pirro’s pole position was the first time an Italian rider secured the number one spot since Michel Fabrizio in 2005 when he rode for Honda. 

On his final fast lap Crutchlow was nearly half a second up on his second split, but was forced to back of due to rain at the end of the lap to avoid the risk of a crash.
Third place went to another local Italian Massimo Roccoli who secured far and away his best qualifying position of the year onboard his Intermoto Honda.

Kawasaki rider Katsuaki Fujiwara had an impressive day to secure fourth and in doing so outpaced his team-mate Joan Lascorz who could only manage the tenth fastest time.

Gianluca Nannelli showed that home advantage counts at Misano to take fifth onboard the BE1 Triumph with Anthony West making a welcome return to form onboard the Stiggy Honda in sixth.

Eugene Laverty managed to hold onto a second row grid position in eighth, but is significantly 0.961 s off pole, leaving him with work to do tomorrow if he wants to keep pressure on Crutchlow i.
