Jonathan Rea WSB countdown Diary – Day 7

1 of 1

In last weekends two-day test at Phillip Island, Britain’s Jonathan Rea topped the time sheets with an impressive 1m 31.8s lap time.

The Ten Kate Honda rider has hit form just in time for the opening round of the championship this weekend.

With just two days to go until the opening round of the championship this weekend, Rea has been soaking up the sun and the Australian way of life on Phillip Island.

“It’s been a pretty chilled out day today. I learnt how to surf last week so today myself, Tommy (Hill), Leon (Haslam) and my mate Gary hired some boards and gave it a go ourselves. It was good laugh and we got on alright.

“I’m pretty pleased with how the testing went at the weekend. I managed to set some consistent times and my base speed was pretty good.

“I was with Haga and Fabrizio on one of my fast laps and I was able to run their pace and it was easier doing the lap time when I was with them.

“Myself and Kiyo decided to do a race run together but Kiyo actually crashed out when he was behind me which kind of put an end to that.

“Compared to the last test in Portugal I feel a lot more confident. Going into the weekend I’m feeling good. I think the battle is going to be from lap 14 to lap 22 because tyre life is going to be an issue.

“But judging by our pace I think we can be in it and we’re not going to be hung out to dry.”
