End of the road for title winning Yamaha World Supersport team?

Cal Crutchlow’s World Supersport Championship winning Yamaha team are looking increasing likely that they will not be in a position to defend their title in 2010.

The Yamaha Europe backed squad who won the WSS crown for the first time since 2000 do not have the required budget to continue in 2010.

Since the end of the season Yamaha bosses have been speaking with a number of established teams about taking over the project. Yamaha are prepared to make the title winning bikes, staff and team infrastructure available to a new team and are believed to have held discussions with the British run Parkalgar Honda squad and Garry McCoys Triumph BE1 team.

Yamaha’s Laurens Laurens Klein Koerkamp said:
“The decision has been finalised that Yamaha will not run the project like we have in the past due to a lack of budget. We are still trying to find a team to work with, but realistically if we have not found a partner by the Portimao test in January I don’t think it will be possible for us to race these bikes in Supersport next year.”
