Magny Cours World Supersport: Rea tops first session at Magny Cours

Briton Jonathan Rea claimed provisional pole position for Sunday’s penultimate round of the World Supersport championship at Magny Cours.

In bitterly cold conditions, Rea posted a best lap of 1m42.849s in a rain interrupted session and remains confident he can go faster tomorrow.

Rea said: “I’m happy enough, we tested here so we were able to hit the ground running today. I plugged away and I was able to get into the 1m 42’s by the end of the session which is the pace we’ll need to be doing all race if we want to win.”

Second spot went to factory Yamaha man Broc Parkes, who led for the majority of the session with Hoegee Suzuki rider Barry Veneman in third.

Local rider Matthew Lagrive secured fourth onboard his Intermoto Czech Honda with Spaniard Juan Lascorz continuing his return to form in fifth.

Championship leader Andrew Pitt was running third for the majority of the session before a crash in the second split saw him drop down the leader board to sixth. The Australian was on a potentially pole lap when he lost the front at the first chicane but was unhurt in the crash.
