Monza World Supersport: Josh Brookes top after first practice

Australian Josh Brookes topped the time sheets with a lap time just 0.3 seconds off the Supersport lap record in only the opening free practice session in Monza today.

Brookes, the former championship leader, was the only man to dip in to the 1min 50sec bracket around the 5.79KM Italian circuit.

Frenchman Fabien Foret was second on his Yamaha R6 and clocked an impressive 179mph through the speed trap.

Assen race winner Andrew Pitt took third with Italian Massimo Roccoli fourth.

Championship leader Joan Lascorz ended the session in fifth with Craig Jones the first of the Brits in sixth 1.175 seconds off pole.

Jonathan Rea took 16th first time out on the Monza track with Chris Walker in 17th, Kev Coughlan 22nd and Graeme Gowland 28th.
