World Superbikes Valencia test: Karl Muggeridge leads the way

Karl Muggeridge showed the rest of the World Superbike field how it’s done by posting a seriously fast lap on a qualifying tyre to dip under Troy Bayliss’ previous best lap of the Spanish circuit.

Riding his 2008 specification D F Racing Honda CBR1000RR, the Australian took the scalp of Ten Kate Honda man Carlos Checa to finish top Honda at the test.

Ruben Xaus held onto second place in the standings with his time from yesterday. He was forced to miss today’s testing due to a lack of engine parts for his Sterilgarda Ducati.

Fellow Ducati rider Lorenzo Lanzi proved just how effective the 1200cc Ducati will be around the tight and twisty Valencia track by posting the third fastest time.

Carlos Checa and his Ten Kate Honda team believed a 1min33sec lap time as possible but the Spaniard was unable to gain a significant benefit from his qualifying tyre and dropped to fourth.

Ryuichi Kiyonari was another man that consistently improved on race rubber but was unable to get the full benefits of his qualifier.
