Misano World Superbikes: Bayliss takes control in qualifying practice

Troy Bayliss took control of the opening qualifying session at Misano to post a blistering 1m 36.863 second lap to take provisional pole for Sunday’s two World Superbike races.

Fresh from a successful three day test in Mugello last week Bayliss has clearly got his Ducati 1098 F08 dialled into the San Marino track with every intention to stamp his authority back on the series this weekend.

Second place went to Czech rider Jacob Smrtz. Smrtz has shown impressive pace during the year and his performance also highlights just how well the 1200 Ducati is working around the 4.2Km track with Max Biaggi making it three Ducati’s in the top four in fourth place.

Troy Corser was the only man to break the Ducati monopoly at the front of the field to take third with Yamaha team-mate Nori Haga in fifth position.

Championship contender Carlos Checa slumped to 15th place complaining of a lack of grip and chatter problems.
