Nurburgring World Supersport: Andrew Pitt victorious in Aussie 1-2-3

1 of 1

Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Andrew Pitt has won the World Supersport race at the Nurburgring after taking the lead just three laps from the end.

It had looked as if fellow Australian Broc Parkes was certain for the win after leading for the majority of the race, but Pitt had other ideas which then spurred on Yamaha’s Josh Brookes leaving Parkes in third.

Andrew Pitt shot into the lead, but Britain’s Craig Jones and Tommy Hill, Fabien Foret, Mark Aitchison, Gianluca Nannelli and Arne Tode all crashed out on the first corner, bringing out the red flag to stop the race.

The restart saw the race shortened from 22 laps to 19 and unfortunately was missing Tommy Hill. It looked like Jones would take the lead but Pitt repeated his first start move to get in front of the Brit with pole man Broc Parkes third.

Going into lap two Jones went down to sixth as around seven riders were all bunched up and vying for the top positions.

On lap three it was an all Australian front three with Broc Parkes, Andrew Pitt and Josh Brookes leading the field. Britain’s Chris Walker was looking set for his best finish of the season lying 13th while Graeme Gowland was 24th.

Lap seven saw Walker shoot past Katsuaki Fujiwara to move up to 12th, while up front Craig Jones was in fifth and moving away from championship leader Joan Lascorz.

Robbin Harms and Matthieu Lagrive crashed out in an incident with each other on lap seven.

Lap 11 and Chris Walker was still pushing hard as he got through to take 10th place. But up front with only four to go it was still Broc Parkes just in the lead by 0.243secs from Andreww Pitt on the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda and Josh Brookes.

But the patient Pitt was nolonger happy sitting in second and shot past Parkes to take the lead and Parkes luck just got worse as Brooke then took second from him on the penultimate lap.

And Pitt held on to take the victory just 0.387secs ahead of Brookes with Parkes making up the final podium spot.

Britain’s Craig Jones and Jonathan Rea finished fifth and sixth respectively while there was also a top ten finish for Walker.
