Nurburgring World Supersport: Craig Jones on front row, Tommy Hill on second row

Brits Craig Jones and Tommy Hill put in sensational performances in final qualifying this afternoon to secure second and eight places on the grid respectively for tomorrow’s World Supersport race.

Jones backed up his Friday front row grid position with a blistering 2:00.473 lap, which was only bettered by the on form Yamaha mounted Broc Parkes.

Third place went to the determined Josh Brookes, with Andrew Pitt and Triumph’s Mark Aitchison making it four Australians in the top five.

The biggest surprise of the day came from Hannspree Altea Honda man Tommy Hill. In his first ride back for seven months, Hill looked like he’d been racing in the class all season and got progressively quicker and quicker securing eighth place and his place on the second row of the grid.

Jonathan Rea endured a tough session and although he lapped quicker than yesterday could only secure 13th place and will start the race from the fourth row of the grid.

Chris Walker claimed 20th spot with fellow Brit Graeme Gowland experiencing a difficult weekend down in 29th place.
