Nurburgring World Superbikes: Troy Corser fastest again in first qualifying

Troy Corser backed his pace in this morning’s free practice session to take provisional pole with an impressive 1min 57.257 lap this afternoon.

The Yamaha Italia rider has clearly gelled with the German track, but his session wasn’t without incident as he became one of only two riders to crash.

The 35-year-old Australian lost the front at the long turn two left hand corner, which was put down to not having enough heat in his front tyre.

Troy Bayliss claimed second spot onboard his Xerox Ducati, but is still not 100 per cent happy with the bike set-up. Whilst he is confident in the front the Australian is experiencing a lot of movement from the rear so is looking to make some improvements overnight before heading into tomorrow morning’s final qualifying session.

Carlos Checa claimed third place but is still searching for more grip after having to change the set-up of his Ten Kate Honda compared to last time out at Miller Motorsports Park where he took the double win.

Local favourite Max Neukirchner looked as smooth and controlled as ever to put his Alstare Suzuki onto the provisional front row. Neukirchner was backed up by his team-mate Yukio Kagayama who set not only one of the fastest, but some of the most consistent lap times on his way to fifth spot and is clearly riding on a high following his victory at the Suzuka 300 race in Japan last weekend.
