Assen World Superbikes: Rea and Jones line up on front row

Brits Jonathan Rea and Craig Jones have qualified on the front row in second and third place respectively for tomorrow’s 21 lap World Supersport race at Assen. In one of the best qualifying sessions of the year Rea and Jones both held the top spot at different times but lost out on top honours to Yamaha’s Broc Parkes.

Rea and Jones have also shown strong race pace and look set to be in the thick of the action alongside both Yamaha men Broc Parkes and Fabien Foret along with current championship leader Joan Lascorz, who ended the session in fifth spot and will start the race from the second row.

Chris Walker was able to slash his lap time by a massive 1.2 seconds to finish 1.6s off Parkes’ pole time, but due to the level of competition in the class only jumped up to 20th spot so will be looking for another trademark ‘Stalker’ start in tomorrows race.

Graeme Gowland and wildcard rider Kev Coughlan ended the second session in 27th and 32nd place.
