Vallelunga World Supersport: Craig Jones second in shortened race in Italy

Britain’s Craig Jones narrowly missed out on victory to finish second in a shortened World Supersport race in Vallelunga.

The Cheshire rider had led the race for the first 17 laps before being swallowed up by champion Kenan Sofuoglu.

Craig Jones stormed in to the lead from pole position for the World Supersport race.

Fellow Brit Tommy Hill buried his Yamaha in to the gravel trap in lap one.

World champion Kenan Sofuoglu did not have a good start to the race as he had a coming together with another rider. Both were able to stay on but finished up going wide.

Broc Parkes managed to get up to second with Hannnspree Ten Kate Honda’s Kenan Sofuoglu in third on lap two.

Turkey’s Kenan Sofuoglu, took Parkes second on lap four but Parkes soon claimed it straight back.

Massimo Roccoli retired form the race on lap five.

Josh Brookes crashed put of the race on lap nine.

Kenan Sofuoglu took the lead from Jones on lap 17 having gradually shortened the gap between himself and Jones.

The race was stopped on lap 19 as five riders came off on the same corner where some oil had been dropped. Because it had passed the two thirds distance the race was declared as they came over the line on lap 18.
