Lausitzring World Superport: Carnage at Lausitzring in wet free practice

The second World Supersport free practice turned into a demolition derby with 16 crashes during the 45 minute session at the Lausitzring.

Heavy drizzle turned into consistent rain which resulted in minimal grip around the flat German circuit.

The biggest problem areas where at the end of the two straights where a lot of rubber has been put on the ground from the numerous car races held at the track.

The amount of rubber forms a seal over the track preventing the water to drain away, making it very slippery into the braking zone.

Among the crashers was Ten Kate man Kenan Sofuoglu, he emerged from a heavy fall at the end of the session unhurt.

Stiggy Honda rider Robin Harms wasn’t so lucky and after high siding his Honda was taken to the medical centre with a broken collarbone. Katsuaki Fujiwara was another crasher whilst yesterday’s pole man Sebastien Charpentier stayed onboard could only manage 33rd place, over 15 seconds off the pace.

It wasn’t just the top men who struggled, Spanish rider Arturo Tizon crashed twice and failed to complete a single lap.

Stiggy Honda rider Josh Brookes eventually topped the time sheets with a best lap of 2m 05.212, 1.6 seconds faster than second place man Matthew Lagrive.

Britain’s Tommy Hill excelled in the wet conditions and ran consistently at the top of the leader board to eventually finish the session in third place.

Fellow Brit Craig Jones suffered two mechanical failures which meant he was only able to complete five laps and end the untimed session in 23rd place after running as high as fourth.
