World Supersport: Ten Kate Honda dominate Supersport Qualifying

Ten Kate Honda men Sebastien Charpentier and Kenan Sofuoglu may have sat out the opening wet free practice session this morning, but they stormed to the top of the leader board this afternoon to secure first and second in the opening qualifying session.

Sebastien Charpentier took the top spot with a best lap of 1m41.366sec less than 0.3sec slower than last year’s best lap set by Kevin Curtain.

Charpentier’s provisional pole marks a return to form after a tough race last time out at Brands Hatch.

Newly crowned champion Kenan Sofuoglu set the pace for the majority of the session before being knocked off the top spot by his team-mate.

Third went to Brands Hatch race winner Broc Parkes who recently re-signed for the factory Yamaha team for another season in World Supersport.

Japan’s Katsuaki Fujiwara secured fourth place and needs a good result this weekend to maintain his third place in the championship standings onboard his Altea Honda.

Tommy Hill got to grips with the Lausitz circuit in no time. Having completed just seven laps in the damp this morning the Yamaha rider impressed with his pace to go sixth fastest and is confident he can further improve tomorrow.

Craig Jones made a slow start to end the opening day in 15th place.
