Corser throws down the gauntlet

Australian Troy Corser set down the gauntlet for his rivals by twice breaking the lap record at Silverstone on Saturday morning.

The Yamaha rider broke BSB rider Greorio Lavilla’s record time of 1:25.174 by lapping the Northamptonshire circuit in 1:25.140.

British hopeful, James Toseland, then went faster still with just five and a half minutes of the session remaining, posting a 1:24.999 before Corser retaliated for provisional pole with a 1:24.731 with two minutes to go.

Troy Bayliss, who had led for most of the first half of the session, completed his morning in third after recording a 1:25.726

Lorenzo Lanzi, who was second fastest yesterday, put in another good session this morning in fifth place with a 1:25.447.

Italian Max Biaggi, although not up with the top riders, managed to knock a second and a half off his best tie from yesterday with a 1:25.957

The only casualty of the session was Team Sterilgarda’s Ruben Xaus who came off on the back straight between Ireland and Abbey.

Most of the teams opted to use race tyres for this morning’s session in cloudy but dry conditions.
