Haga does the double at Monza

Noriyuki Haga recorded a well deserved double win at Monza as he won the second World Superbikes race of the day.

 

The Japanese man had a dreadful start finding himself back in sixth, similar to race one. But once Haga had made his way to the front, overtaking leader James Toseland on lap seven along the way, he rode steadily to victory.

 

The real race was going on behind the leader and Hanspree Ten Kate Honda rider Roberto Rolfo was once again surprising all with his pace as he found himself in second. Rolfo then diced for third with Max Biaggi and Troy Bayliss throughout the 11 laps of the 18 lap race.

 

The real excitement came on the final lap with Toseland being caught by Biaggi and Bayliss. Biaggi had a huge scare, nearly crashing out altogether, but he managed to keep his Suzuki GSX-R1000 upright to finish fifth.

 

Bayliss just missed out on second as Toseland ground it out to hold on with the Australian third by just by 0.15sec.

 

Britain’s Dean Ellison was the last rider to finish in 15^th place on his Ducati 999RS.

 

The Yamaha Motor Italia rider, who also set the fastest lap of the race on lap six at 1:46.064, has now moved into second spot in the Championship ahead of Biaggi. Toseland has extended his championship lead to 35 points following his fourth and second places.
