Yamaha's Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser first and second in Brno

Yamaha men Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser set the pace in the first qualifying session at Brno today.

Noriyuki Haga who won at the Czech track from 16th on the grid in 2005 set a best lap of 2m01.603s.

Although the lap time was good enough for pole it is still a long way outside the best WSB lap at Brno of 2m 0.457s set by Noriyuki Haga last year.

Troy Corser made good progress with the set-up of his Yamaha Italia R1 to jump from sixth to second with this morning’s pole man Max Biaggi in third.

Biaggi wasn’t able to replicate his pace early on in the session but an impressive run of three laps at the end of the hour long qualifying saw him jump up to third on his final lap.

James Toseland ran at the front throughout the session but was relegated to fourth at the finish.

Toseland spent the session concentrating on race set-up on his Honda and did an impressive 15 lap run where he recorded consistently fast times in an effort to select a race tyre for Sunday.

Ducati’s Troy Bayliss held on to provisional pole for the majority of the session, but in the final 10 minutes was over hauled by Noriyuki Haga, Troy Corser, James Toseland and Max Biaggi and ended the first day in fifth place.

Italian Roberto Rolfo looked impressive on his Hannspree Ten Kate Honda and finished day one in sixth place having benefited from a few laps behind Troy Bayliss towards the end of the session.
