Ruben Xaus fastest at Vallelunga World Superbike test

Spaniard Ruben Xaus showed that he is still as fast as anyone and made the best possible use of his one and only qualifying tyre to set the fastest time at day two of the Vallelunga WSB test.

Unlike his factory rider rivals, Xaus did not benefit from development Pirelli tyres but took to the track when the conditions were cool to set a time too good for the rest of the field to match.

Second position went to series leader Troy Bayliss who spent the two days testing tyres and fine tuning his Xerox Ducati for the track. With no new parts to test for the soon to be redundant 999 Bayliss was ready to go home half way through the second day but stayed to do a longer run despite the scorching 62 degree track temperature.

Third place went to Troy Corser who also spent the two days testing tyres and fine tuning his electronics package with James Toseland in fourth. Toseland had a much busier testing schedule with not only tyres but the latest Pectal PI electronics system and new electronically controlled suspension.

Toseland opted not to run a qualifying tyre until the final session and in doing so missed out of his best chance of going faster as the track was simply too hot when he went out.

Max Biaggi made good progress on his electronic package, but couldn’t give his fans what they wanted at his home track and ended the session in fifth although the Italian did set his best time on race rubber.

For full details on the test and information on Ten Kate’s new electronically controlled suspension see MCN out 11th July.
