New boy Josh Brookes tops World Supersport at Vallelunga test

Australian Josh Brookes put three years of disappointment behind him to set the fastest time in Vallelunga first time out for his new Honda World Supersport team.

Riding for Stiggy Honda after a nightmare season with Alto Evolution Honda in WSB that saw him miss races due to the team’s race truck and bikes being hijacked, Brookes saved his best until last to go quickest ahead of championship leader Kenan Sofuoglu.

Sofuoglu set the bench mark time in the penultimate session and looked in control of the test until Brookes flying lap, but the young Turk remained content with the set-up of his Ten Kate Honda even if he wasn’t a fan of the Vallelunga track.

Third place went to Yamaha’s Broc Parkes who is clearly working well and pushing hard onboard his R6. Italian Lorenzo Alfonsi made good use of his track knowledge gained in Italian Championship races to take fourth with reigning world champion Sebastian Charpentier in fifth.

Britons Craig Jones had a good day and with limited tyres due to not being part of the Pirelli development team and impressed by finishing in eighth place.
