Sofuoglu wins in WSS

1 of 1

Kenan Sofuoglu has won the opening World Supersport race of 2007 after Hannspree Honda team-mate Sebastien Charpentier crashed out of the lead in the closing stages of the race.

Yamaha rider Kevin Curtain set the initial pace, but after being closed down by the two Ten Kate Honda riders dropped down to third.

Once past Curtain, the young Turk Sofuoglu ran at the front until three laps from the end when 2005 and 2006 Supersport Champion Charpentier out-braked him into turn one.

However, once past his team-mate, Charpentier began to look more ragged trying to edge out a gap and a lap later lost the front, handing the victory to Sofuoglu.

Britain’s Craig Jones started from a distant 26th on the grid, but managed to battle his way through a packed mid-field to a very respectable 12th position finish.

Curtain and Fujiwara joined Sofuoglu on the podium.
