MotoGP man Alex Hofmann was one of a number of riders who spent the weekend at Brands Hatch looking to secure a ride in World Superbikes next season.

Alex Hofmann, who is currently recovering from a serious hand injury after he was T-boned by Yamaha rider Sylvan Guintoli at Laguna Seca, knows that securing a competitive ride in MotoGP next season will be difficult so his looking at options in Superbikes.

Alex Hofmann has raced in World Superbikes back in 2002 when he deputised for Hitoyasu Izutzo in the factory Kawasaki squad.

Since then Hofmann has been a long time feature in MotoGP’s due to series organisers Dorna requiring a top German rider in the championship.

Speaking to MCN, Alex Hofmann said: “It’s a strong field in MotoGP and Dorna want me to stay.

“All the factory rides for next year have gone so I’d be looking at the satellite teams which have certain limitations so it’s hard to do any better than fifth to eighth place.

“The other problem I have is my size as the MotoGP bikes are getting smaller. Can you imagine me on a Honda RCV, it would look like I was riding a mini bike.

“That bike is built for Danny Pedrosa. The only two bikes that I’d fit on are the Yamaha because that’s been built around Valentino Rossi and the Ducati, which is just an all round bigger bike.”

“I wouldn’t have that problem in WSB because all the bikes are that much bigger.”

Alex Hofmann admitted he’d spoken to a number of team bosses at Brands Hatch but that he was also enjoying the atmosphere of the famous event.

He said “It’s a cool track and I like the place. I’ve been speaking with a number of teams but I’ve also had the chance to go on the fun fair late on Saturday night, which was awesome.”
