Brands Hatch World Supersport: Yamaha's Tommy Hill impresses despite crash

Tommy Hill made an impressive World Supersport debut onboard the Yamaha World SSP Racing R6 to finish the first session in fourth place.  

Tommy Hill was on the pace straight away and topped the time sheets early on and was on target to set an even quicker lap when he suffered a fast crash at Clearways corner.

Hill emerged unscathed from the crash and got back out on his number two bike to complete the rest of the session.

Speaking to MCN, Hill said: “It’s a good start and there is more to come. I was getting a lot of movement on the front tyre around Clearways so we made some changes.

“I went back out and the front felt a lot better and a lot more stable. I was on a fast lap but as I came in to Clearways it felt really good right up until it let go completely.”

Reigning world champion Sebastian Charpentier topped the time sheets ahead of his Turkish Ten Kate Honda team-mate Kenan Sofuoglu.

Tommy Hill’s team-mate Broc Parkes led the session but was relegated to third in the final minutes.

Britain’s Craig Jones made a solid start to his weekend finishing the session in eight place on his Honda.
