McCoy still looking for a ride

Former 500GP and WSB race winner Garry McCoy hasn’t given up on making a return to top flight racing.

McCoy has been on the sidelines since being dropped by the Illmor MotoGP squad at the start of the year in favour of Jeremy McWilliams and Andrew Pitt. Before that his last full time ride was with the FoggyPetronas squad in 2005.

During 2006 he also competed in rounds of the World Supermoto championship but has his heart set on a return to world championship racing.

Speaking exclusively to MCN, the Australian said: “Life is good but I still really miss racing. I went to the Valencia WSB round and pretty much spoke to every team in the paddock, but there are no obvious options.

“It seems that the majority of teams want the rider to bring money and that’s not something I can do.”

McCoy, who celebrated his 35th birthday yesterday added: “I spent some time in Australia over the winter and there was an offer to put together a ride for me over there on an MV.

“The problem is that I’ve been on the world scene for so long and I think it would be difficult to go to a domestic series. If you’ve been racing on those types of tracks all your life it’s different, but I’ve been used to MotoGP and WSB circuits.

“I don’t think there are any options in MotoGP, we’ve spoken to people in WSB and the other championship I would consider is AMA.”
