Bayliss secures wet Superpole

Troy Bayliss survived a trip through the gravel trap in the final ten minutes of the wet Superpole session to take pole position for tomorrows two WSB races at Valencia. Bayliss set a best lap of 1m51.982 early on in the session and despite ever improving track conditions no one was able to match it.

Ruben Xaus made it a Ducat first and second with arguably the easiest front row start of his career. The Spaniard was the first man on track during the 50 minute session and on his first flying lap posted a time good enough to take second place and then spent the rest of the session relaxing in his pit box.

The surprise of the day came from another Australian Josh Brookes. Brookes had already shown how fast he was during wet qualifying this morning and was able to continue his impressive form to take third position and his first Superbike front row of his career.

Fourth went to Australian Troy Corser, who despite qualifying on the front row wasn’t happy with the grip available from his Pirelli tyres.

Britons James Toseland will start from fifth place and will be joined on the second row alongside Lorenzo Lanzi, Noriyuki Haga and Yukio Kagayama.

Max Biaggi was one of the big losers. The Italian was the first man to complete his allocation of 12 laps, but was left over three seconds off the pace and will start tomorrows two races from the back of the third row in 12th place.
