Oz WSB: Qualifying 1
James Toseland was third fastest in the first qualifying practice for Sunday’s Australian WSB round on Friday.
Alex Barros was second quickest – with championship leader Troy Bayliss on provisional pole.
But in the earlier free practice it was Chris Walker who was the surprise package. He clocked the second fastest time of that cooler morning session – 1.33.755 on his ZX-10R. If he had replicated that time in qualifying 1 it would have been good enough to beat Barros.
Bayliss said: ” I expected to go quite a bit faster in the second session (Qualifying Practice 1) but actually in the end the track was quite hot and a bit slower and I only bettered the time by a tenth of a second.”
“We’ve got second qualifying first thing on Saturday morning, when it’ll be cooler and I think it’s going to be better. I didn’t know Alex was behind me, which was when he did his time, but I know he’s going to be coming in the future anyway, that’s no problem. All I know is that I was consistent on my race tyre and that’s the main thing at the moment.”
