Kagayama takes race 1

1 of 1

Yukio Kagayama has ridden to his second ever World Superbike win at the Brno round of the championship.

The Japanese Suzuki rider stormed through the pack to take the lead and win comfortably.

The first race saw James Toseland lead the first half of the race comfortably but Kagayama caught him and managed to pass him on lap 14 immediately managing to get a gap and keep it to the flag.

Nearly all the field seemed to be struggling with grip in the first race with Lorenzo Lanzi forced to pit to change the rear, Alex Barros pulling out with now front end grip and Andrew Pitt calling it a day two laps from the end after dropping down from third place.

Toseland’s second place was even more impressive considering his collision with a back marker in the morning warmup session. The other rider was coasting on the exit to the corner and was in just the wrong place as Toseland came through at full pace clipping the side of the bike and putting footpeg of the other bike through Toseland’s clutch cover spilling oil all over the tyre and throwing him off.

But it was Michel Fabrizio that impressed the most storming through the field from 12th on lap one to take his first ever WSB podium in third.

Troy Bayliss suffered a blow to his championship lead by being knocked out with Regis Laconi on the first corner when Andrew Pitt sat his bike up mid corner inside the pair.
