Thomas 'ran out of fuel'

1 of 1

Dean Thomas will race in Phillip Island for the GIL Motorsport Team following a great performance in Qatar which only ended as his ZX6-R ran out of fuel!

The Hawk Kawasaki British Superbike star was riding as a stand-in for the injured Stephane Chambon, and despite the Qatar round being his first time in World Supersport, his first time at the Losail track, and his first time on the ZX6-R, he moved up from 18th on the grid to seventh place in the race. Challenging for sxith on the penultimate lap, his bike ran dry, despite it being completely full at the start of the race.

“I was gutted not to have finished the race, but I’m delighted on how far through the pack I managed to get,” said Thomas. “The fuel situation has left the team in a dilemma, and they need to ensure this problem is resolved before the next race. Luckily it has been found early in the season and is something they should be able to rectify.”

“I really can’t wait to go to Phillip Island. I’ve not been back home for over a year and my whole family are coming down to watch the race. It’s a circuit I know and certainly like a lot as it suits my riding style, so I am hoping that i can run up near the front this time round.”
